Digital Inclusion Project
Caerphilly Miners Centre is running a funded Digital Inclusion project to help those in the community who are in need of support with accessing our online and hybrid activities that are running from our Centre and with any other online needs. The pandemic has taught us how important it is to be able to keep in touch with friends and family but sadly many of the digitally excluded felt socially isolated. We want to break down those barriers of social exclusion and are planning to run regular Digital courses from our centre, continue our tablet loan scheme and offer phone support for our community members.
We have acquired additional funding from United Welsh - Together to outreach our digital project to the residents of United Welsh and Caerphilly County Borough Council's sheltered housing. We plan to deliver our activities to them by training the residents to use Zoom, help with any other online needs and lend them tablets via our tablet loan scheme.
Tablet Loan Scheme
We have acquired Lenovo M8 tablets to set up a Tablet Loan Scheme. Our main objective is to help those in our community with digital needs who would like to access our activities and to communicate with their family and friends.
You're required to provide Photo ID and sign a loan agreement form.
If you are interested in loaning a tablet then please email email@example.com
We're running FREE Digital courses over the summer to help as many people in our community with limited digital literacy. You'll learn all the most popular apps that are trending in the digital world right now!
The classes start at 10-11am and there's a drop-in session afterwards to ask a digital volunteer any queries you have or simply just practice what you've learn't.
Our other courses are running on 27th July and 24th August for 4 weeks every Tuesday, 10-11am.
If you are interested in booking one of our courses please email firstname.lastname@example.org
We need to recruit digital volunteers to help support those struggling with technology. They need to have a basic understanding of popular applications including Zoom but more importantly they need patience and understanding.
We’re looking for two types of digital volunteers but primarily CENTRE BASED volunteers:
1) Centre volunteers:
To help assist those on our Digital courses and our drop-in sessions with any queries they have. Also, to help support activity leaders and stewards with setting up equipment for activities and classes running at the centre, hybrid and online only.
2) Remote volunteers:
To help those access online activity – eg accessing emails, Google, websites, social media and Zoom. This can be done over the phone and will help to support the person in a social capacity as well.
A full induction meeting will be given.
